Farley: Time to Move Forward and Confirm Judge Kavanaugh

Press Release

Date: Sept. 28, 2018

"The hearing has been held, questions have been asked and the American people have watched and listened. It is clear that bitter partisanship, driven in large measure by my opponent, Kirsten Gillibrand, has divided our nation.

"Dr. Ford's testimony yesterday was compelling and credible, and I ascribe no political motivations to her actions. I believe Dr. Ford was a victim, not just 36 years ago but throughout the past few weeks, as her desire to maintain her and her family's privacy was ignored by those with their own agendas. The sad fact is that Dr. Ford was used as a pawn by Kirsten Gillibrand and Democrats in order to drag these confirmation proceedings to a new low. Having found no valid reason to reject his nomination, Kirsten Gillibrand is willing to sacrifice the good names of both Dr. Ford and Judge Kavanaugh in her quest for the Presidency.

"And while I believe someone assaulted Dr. Ford, she offered no new evidence yesterday to corroborate her charge. In fact, this entire process has yielded not one scintilla of tangible evidence to support the charge against Judge Kavanaugh. For his part, Judge Kavanaugh answered all questions directed to him and has repeatedly, passionately and unequivocally denied all accusations. The underhanded tactics of Kirsten Gillibrand and her colleagues have made Judge Kavanaugh and his family victims in this sad episode.

"The judicial confirmation process is broken. Washington itself is broken. Too many career politicians like Kirsten Gillibrand have placed their personal ambitions ahead of the best interests of our nation. Not advancing Judge Kavanaugh would set a dangerous precedent for future nominees of both parties. It is time to move forward and confirm Judge Kavanaugh."
